Above are the topographical lunar maps. They're based on data from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter which is aboard NASA's LRO. To create the maps, the cartographers used more than 6.5 billion measurements collected between 2009 and 2013. For an extremely hi-res (472 MB) version of this map, click here. A smaller, low-res version can be found here (recommended).

Atlantic Centered Waterman Projection

The Waterman projection show the equator clearly, as well as continental shapes, distances (within 10%), areas (within 10%) angular distortions (within 20 degrees), and relative postions, as a compromise: statistically better than all other World maps. No other projection systems have been able to handle the management of those characteristics collectively as well. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the Fuller Projection?

This map presents a world that is nearly contiguous and at accurate sizes and shapes to the continents.
And there is no “correct” orientation for it (the directionality of north/south being arbitrary after all )

The downsides are that it cuts up Antarctica and distorts the size of oceans, which is bad news for sailors and penguin researchers, but for geography in general it’s AWESOME

the weird and completely ignorant, racist, US-centric term "caucasian" really makes me mad.
on this map you see the ethnic groups of caucasus. period.
the only terrorists with caucasian roots on US ground may have been the tsarnaev brothers.

The spread of the black death.

Poland, tell us your secret

Poland is the old new Madagascar.

If I remember correctly, Poland’s secret is that the jews where being blamed all over europe (as usual) as scapegoats for the black plague. Poland was the only place that accepted Jewish refugees, so pretty much all of them moved there.

Now, one of the major causes of getting the plague was poor hygiene. This proved very effective for the plague because everyone threw their poop into the streets because there were no sewers, and literally no one bathed because it was against their religion. Unless they were jewish, who actually bathed relatively often. When all the jews moved to Poland, they brought bathing with them, and so the plague had little effect there.

Milan survived by quarantining its city and burning down the house of anyone showing early symptoms, with the entire family inside it.

Poland: “Hey, feeling a bit down? Have a quick wash! There, you see? All better”

Milan:Aw, feeling a bit sick are we? BURN MOTHERFUCKER, BURN!!!!!

This is a screencapture of the current wind map for the U.S. Notice anything? Seems like there might be some weather impacting the northeast.

That website is oddly mesmerizing.
